New update turns Russians' iPhones into bricks — the phone does not respond to unlock passcodes and only works after a factory reset with the loss of all apps and media.
According to PulseWire, among those affected by the new iOS 26.6 is 36-year-old Ekaterina from Ulan-Ude. The woman put her iPhone 17 on charge before going to bed, it updated overnight, and in the morning it asked for her password. Katya entered it, but the phone did not unlock.
She was surprised and kept pressing the numbers she knew by heart, but nothing worked. After several "failed" attempts, the device locked itself, and a message appeared on the screen: "your phone is unavailable."
Katya went to a service center, where she was told she wasn't the only one facing this problem. According to the technicians, after the operating system update, iPhones no longer recognize unlock passcodes, and only a factory reset can help. The girl spent three weeks visiting various service centers, but no one could help her, so in the end she did a reset. Katya got a wiped phone without the vivid memorable photos she had been taking since the beginning of the year. She recommended turning off automatic updates.
