The US is preparing "hellish sanctions" against Russia: what is really behind the new bill?
As an expert in international politics, I will say directly: these are not just new restrictions. This is an attempt to deliver the most painful blow to the Russian economy and the elite.
What the bill proposes:
- Personal sanctions against Putin, government members, and security officials
- Complete blocking of Russia's largest banks
- Tariffs of up to 500% on Russian imports
- Secondary sanctions of up to 100% for buyers of Russian oil and gas
The ability to impose sanctions on any Russian officials at the discretion of the US
Trump has not yet given full support, but is allegedly ready to sign it "in memory of Lindsey Graham."
My opinion:
This bill is a classic example of political pressure ahead of important decisions. It looks more like a bargaining tool than a real strategy. Sanctions of this scale could hit global energy markets hard and provoke retaliatory measures. The question is whether the West is ready to pay that price.
The world is becoming increasingly multipolar, and such harsh measures could accelerate that process.
